What does this mean?

To Consumers: Safer Bedding! Under the new fire safety flammability act, mattresses will have a much slower burn time which will allow it's occupants a greater time to get themselves to safety. Overall, the number of mattress fire related deaths will likely drop dramatically.

To Retailers: Retailers will have the responsibility of making sure that the mattresses they buy are not only tagged correctly, but that they meet fire safety - TB603. The best way is to buy from reputable vendors. The retailers will be the first to catch the "heat" if a consumer receives a fraudulent product and takes the right measures to complain about it.

To Manufacturers: The new fire safety flammability law has mattress component suppliers scrambling to offer components that comply with TB603 and well as the manufacturers who have to ensure that every mattress they make starting Jan. 1, 2005 will comply with the new law. * All and any type of mattresses, futons, box springs and foundations (for a more comprehensive list, refer to CA Bureau of Home Furnishings website on TB603 at http://www.bhfti.ca.gov/) sold in the state of California, regardless of state or country of manufacture, must comply with TB603 and be labeled accordingly. (TB603 law label)

* All and any type of mattresses, futons, box springs and foundations manufactured prior to Jan. 1, 2005 are exempt.

* Comfort returns manufactured before Jan. 1, 2005 and put back on sale without any remanufacturing are exempt. They must still follow that individual state's requirements for sanitizing and proper labeling. 

* TB603 does not cover bed clothes (sheets, comforters, shams, etc.). The forthcoming TB604 will address these items.
